(2011)
Inoffensively okay-ish, but in the same way Eddie Murphy was once funny I want to see Tom Hanks do the same again. Actually, he was in Ladykillers, but for some reason everyone hates that. This, though, is mostly a lazy quagmire of '80s movie soundtracked/montaged/silly characterised nonsense that makes you realise that Hanks (as director and co-writer) lives in an ivory tower.
Julia Roberts, comes across as a brittle bitch most of the time, while an increasingly flaccid-looking Hanks wants to rely on his all-American charm but without any of the comedy business that made him so appealing in the first place. The plot? Redundant Hanks gets involved with a community education programmes.
The reality; George Takei is hilariously "UP" as one of the lecturers and the ubiquitous Bryan Cranston (devoid of moustache, and so seemingly a decade younger) steals the entire film as the big boobies-loving jack-ass boyfriend of Roberts.
