(2008)
Nicolas Roeg's return to the cinema after more than a decade in the wilderness (and the occasional TV movie). He's clearly lost none of his skill in making the everyday feel bizarre and unsettling, and at its best moments recall the fractured realities of his '70s films (stylistically too, it echoes that period of his work).
Fay Weldon's source material is maybe not all that inspiring, but it's what Roeg brings to the table that makes it always interesting to watch and certainly not deserving of some of the negative criticisms it's received.
Good supporting work too from Miranda Richardson and Donald Sutherland, although I'd much rather the originally cast Samantha Morton had remained as the lead rather than the Kelly Reilly (she’s competent but she's no Morton).
