Somewhat redundant remake of Let the Right One In. Strong performances from the leads, and a bravura car wreck sequence, but it fails to evoke the stark atmosphere of the original, even if it's a more assured piece of filmmaking (although, where the effects sequence are showy, you definitely end up feeling less is more).
The '80s setting was chosen as the bullying theme was quite personal for the director and, if this isn't it, Matt Reeves clearly has the potential to do something great at some point (although I'm not sure it will be a new version of the source material for They Live! that he's attached to).
