Supposedly the extended cut, but still a right old mess, laden with dodgy editing and ropey special effects. A bit like one of those ‘80s Charles Band films but with a bigger budget and loftier ideas (just as Band would rip-off The Terminator or Blade Runner with Trancers , this comes across as if someone's watched Children of Men and is attempting a B-version).
Still, it's fun seeing Vin Diesel in a scene opposite Gerard Depardieu (whose hooter is more prodigious than ever, if that's possible) and he works surprisingly well with Michelle Yeoh.
Unfortunately it never musters up anything really interesting in terms of incident, and it's the first time I've been unimpressed with Mark Strong (I suspect he was concentrating on his accent too hard). To think that Mathieu Kassovitz once directed La Haine...
