A possibly too-relaxed final installment, this lacks the urgent against-the-clock pace of its predecessors. The romance angle for Doc Brown is welcome, and Lloyd has great chemistry with Mary Steenburgen. But elsewhere it feels like a little too self-congratulatory, with referentiality and repetition that previously was fun now feeling a little tired. I'm not as keen on Alan Silvestri's western-ised score either. But don't want to be a killjoy; it's entertaining, just not in the same league as I and II.
